Just when I think I have everything I need for my Thanksgiving cooking and baking something else pops up. For the record, here is what we are having for turkey day.
Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, green beans (no not the casserole kind), rolls and asst olives and pickles. For dessert you can choose from custard pie, pumpkin pie and apple/cranberry/walnut pie. I made a wonderful coconut creme pie the other night. Best yet. I actually made the crust out of coconut. Very yummy.
I have decided to start writing down some of my recipes so: one when I get old I can look at it and two so someday my girls will have them. So on that note, yes I wrote down the coconut pie recipe.
Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Another day in Memphis
Got back from Vegas. Really you only need about 2 nights and 3 days there. Actually, we did end up coming home early. Just before we left, Greg was told he HAD to be back for a meeting on Wed morn at 8 am. So, he figured he would take a red-eye home on Tuesday and be there for the meeting. By the time Tuesday rolled around, we decided just to get on the road home. Fortunately, we were able to get an 11:30 am flight be get on home. Made the 8 am meeting a whole lot better with some sleep for Greg and I was just tired of Vegas.
We went to a show while we were there. The original Circ show. It was good, but you really need to see them in order. I wish we had seen this one first before the other one we saw.
Found a couple of wonderful quilt shops. One, I had found the last time I was there. The other one is what I want to be when I grow up. O my gosh, what a beautiful store. They had just all kinds of antiques as merchandising tables. There was one old stove I would have loved to have. Dropped a couple of $$ there.
As usual, the slot machines loved my money. I could almost hear them saying, yum give us money. Went to the old strip and got to meet Elvis. Greg has the picture on his phone. As soon as I figure out how to I will post it. He was a really good one. It was obvious he had spent some serious $$ on his suit. The hair was real, all in all, pretty darn good. Pictures equal tips. Made some money on blackjack down town and gave it all back. Got a picture of Greg and I will $1 million. Had a lot of fun that day.
Back home and recouping. Last week was not so great, but I have faith this week will be better.
Chrystal had a wreak and totaled her car last week. She is ok, but very very sore.
Same day, different sh--with my mother. I feel so bad she won't allow us to help her. Please don't let me be that way when I am old. Denise-bless her heart-has tried several different ways to get Mom help with baths, house, etc. Mom ends up sending them away for different reasons. Most of those have to do with medicine. Last Friday, Denise had sent up a home visit, Mom-I don't need a bath, I need medicine, can't you get me some medicine? Any way......
Thanksgiving is upon us. Have some friends coming over, not sure about Ben and Angel yet. I am sure we will see them at least for a little while. Like most couples in town with relatives I am sure they feel pulled. We get to see them other times.
Off to the sewing room.

Wednesday
I have had 5 wonderful days. Believe it or not, I had 5 free days that I also felt well. Usually, I will have free days and then feel like crap and not get any thing done that I wanted to. Not so for the last few days.
I made Jennifer a bag for her birthday, hats for the boys, 2 pillowcases, went shopping for clothes and made it to Target and the grocery store. Now this may not seem like a lot to some people but for me it was great.
Coldwater Creek had a marvelous sale this weekend. Not only was everything 70% off but they tacked on 25% more. Greg had gotten me a leather coat for my birthday. It was marked down, the nice ladies at CC gave me the discount. I walked out of there with 2 jackets, a iron free shirt, skirt, pair of pants and a belt for the low low price of about $25. Can't beat it. Yeah, some pants that fit. For those of you who don't know I have lost 11.5# with Weightwatchers. I plan on losing an additonal 10-15 more pounds. Cheer for me, please. I have hit a plateau.
Going with Greg to Las Vegas this weekend. He has to be there for a conference so we are going in a few days earlier. Be gone from Friday until the following Wed.
If you have been reading my sisters blog you know about all the stuff going on with my mother. Her husband is toxic for her. I feel so helpless not being able to help her. She thinks because he takes care of making coffee, breakfast and such that he loves her. Well he is "loving" her into an early grave. Her blood sugar is out of control, she has very little medicine-that he helps himself to, it's a mess. Please pray that God will do something. She won't allow anyone to really help her. Her idea of help is to deposit money into her account. Which David promptly drains for who knows what. Last I knew she was behind on her house payments by at least 2 months that we know of. I'll stop my rant.

Dieting
Okay, so after my trip to NM with Jennifer and the boys, I went on Weight Watchers. The first 6 weeks went pretty good, the next4 were ok and now I just want to eat everything in sight. Putting on weight is way more fun than taking it off. However, I have lost 11.2#. That .2 is really important to someone on a diet-or shall I say life style change. As if that makes it better, hooey, let's just call it what it is, a diet.
Had someone come by to give me an estimate to recover a chair and ottoman. Is sounds like it would be cheaper just to buy the chair. The issue is I want a red chair-not a lot of those in the furniture stores. We'll see.
Had a new roof put on last week. Nice guys, but they moved the dish and now we have no TV. I forgot to call on Friday so no TV all weekend, but I don't watch it that much anyway, so I forgot several times, finally just put it on my list. Frankly with the exception of a few shows, I could do with out.

Just thinking
I just finished reading my children's blog and while I love hearing what they are doing, it makes me really, really want to be with them. This living so far away from them both really sucks, but that is what we have to do. Sometimes I long for the days where everyone lived in the same town and got to see each other daily. Oh, well, life isn't all fair.
On to better words,
I just finished making a dino hat for the boys, they are really cute. Hope to have them finished and in the mail by this weekend.
Greg is gone on a team run this weekend, should be back on Sunday evening.
Last weekend we took a break from Memphis and went to Hot Springs, AK. A long time ago, it was the Mecca for sick people. They bathed in the thermal waters. We tried one of the old bath houses. It is not for those who have any modesty. It was fun, I can say, been there done that, but give me a spa, where they have robes and such.
Went fishing on Monday for bass. I always go into fishing trips all positive that we will bring home huge amounts of fish. But alas, only one was caught, despite the fancy fish finder and gear. Greg caught a 11# 18" bass.It was quite tasty. Me, I only caught a great time on the water with nature.
Sunday was spent hiking in the Hot Springs National Park. Did you know it is the oldest part in the system? FDR used to go to the hot baths. It was very pretty and was nice to be outside doing something.

Quilt politics???
I didn't realize that there are quilt politics until yesterday. There I was minding my own business eating my lunch during my break and WHAM I get hit with quilt politics. Less you think I have lost my mind here is a little background.
One of the ladies, let's call her lady A, at the shop did a quilt called Swirly Girl in mid March. Mind you, our sessions run Jan-May, June-Aug, and Sept-Dec. So the earliest she could teach this class would be in June. But she decides to take all of June of and part of July. Mean while, another of our teachers begged off at the last minute for the June-Aug session because her husband was ill. Literally, the schedule was done and really to go to print. Lady B-the sick husband-does a lot of classes for us, so this left a huge hole in the schedule. So, T.-the shop owner-knows that I am in the process of making Swirly Girl for my sister, so she asks me if I would be willing to teach it this summer. Sure I say but what about lady A who made this quilt in March. Answer-she is gone most of the summer and I need classes to run my shop. Makes sense, no classes=slow business. So I say ok. Later I find out Lady A is upset.
At lunch lady C-who also teaches at the shop and does quite well and already has 4 classes this summer-informs me that SHE was the one responsible for the Swirly Girl pattern being brought into the shop, and the fabric that I had used, SHE had talked T into bringing in and, well she guessed that you snooze you lose. Come on, if lady C had really wanted to teach this class this summer all she had to do was list it for T when T was doing the schedule. I wasn't asked until the last minute after all the rest of the schedule had been done. Wow, didn't know one little quilt would cause so much drama. I refuse to be brought into all of this. I didn't find all this out until after I had done the quilt and the schedule was posted.
The quilt did turn out quite nice and Chrystal likes it, so that is all that matters.
That's all I got to say about that.

Hot and muggy
I just want my kids to be closer. As you well know, I just spent some time in southern CA with Becky and Brad. It makes me miss her even more. Last fall after spending a month at Jenn's house, I thought I would never get over being "homesick" for her and her family. Please just beam me up Scotty.
If you haven't noticed, Memphis is in the middle of a hot heat wave. Of course, we are always hot but not this early and not this long. As my beloved so often says -there are 3 parts of the day to Memphis, humid, hot and muggy. Of course, sometimes you get hot, muggy and humid. Just depends on which part of the day it rains, but we haven't had any rain since we got back from CA.
Not doing a whole lot right now. Working more than my fair share of hours this summer because 2 of our ladies have very sick husbands right now and are unable to work. Please pray for Charles Gibson and Mr. Jasper. They both are in need of prayer. One has lung cancer and the other stomach cancer. Charles has been well his whole life until he had a mild stroke and while he was at the hospital they found something on his lungs.

Southern CA
It's not true, it does rain in Southern CA. Sorta, cool overcast...
Just got back from our vacation in CA. Got to see Becky and Brad. Did lots of cool wonderful things. Brad is now graduated from AFI. Congrats to Brad. Got to see Becky's project at school. It is called a spider. You should read her blog for a better understanding of what she is doing.
We started off in San Diego for Greg's run. He did pretty well, his time wasn't what he wanted, but he was running with a slight groin pull. I got the worse sunburn of my life at the race. Shame on me, no sunscreen.Thought we would only be in the sun for a couple of hours-you know a little sun would be ok-try 6 hours plus in the sun. Still healing from that, blisters on the mouth, blisters on the chest....
Went up the coast, stayed in Laguna Beach one night. Rode bikes around one of the islands, I can't remember the name of it, and went on up to Pasadena to Becky and Brad.
Pasadena is a very pretty town. Lots of old wonderful houses. I am glad the kids are there instead of LA.
Had a blast, you need to look at Becky's blog for all the pictures. She raided our camera every couple of days.
Got to go to Mood. For those of you who don't know, I am a big Project Runway fan and Mood is the fabric shop they use on the show. Thanks to Brad for coming with us. Had it not been for him, I 'm not sure I would have been able to purchase the fabric I did. All the fabric is on rolls like decorator fabric. Very heavy.
Check out Becky's blog for all the fun things we did.
I had a great time and wish my children were closer to me, or me closer to them.
Jennifer, the boys and I are going to NM in August to see my sister and mother. Very excited about it. Planning on having a wonderful time.
Spent the morning catching up on Jenn and Becky's blogs. Thank you girls for being so diligent about your blogs. They are a wonderful way of keeping touch with you.

Rain rain go away
It rained, again, yesterday. I mean all day, hard rain. Like we need more rain in this region. Poor Nashville. Today promises hot and sticky and -wait for it-more rain.
Ahhh, summer in Memphis, it has started.
Finished Finley's quilt and took it to the quilters yesterday. It's so dang cute. It will hang in the shop for a few months and then it is off to Finley. Tucker got so many blankets when he was born that I made him a quilt for his big boy bed instead of a baby quilt.
I have a wonderful life. Thank you God.

Mother's Day
What a wonderful week. My Mother's Day started on Thursday with cards from Jenn, Ryan and the boys. Along with that came a summer pair of pj's and a matching robe. They are wonderful shade of purple/lavender. Then the next day Becky's card came and later in the day, a pair of bird earrings from Becca came as well. A little bird brought them to me.
Thank you to both my girls, their husbands and my grand boys. Thank you Thank you.
Sunday morning, Bridget and Greg made me breakfast-cheese eggs, bacon and toast. They also got me cards. Chrystal came over and brought me a begonia and a card as well. I am loved.
Later, Greg and I went to the flower store and got lots of plants. Mostly perennials. Some really interesting ones too, I might add. One is a corkscrew, curly kind of thing, another is a Lenten Rose, and yet another is Solomon's Seal. We got others but that is just a few. Oh, Oh I forgot, we put in clematis's in the trellis bed. According to the tag, we are going to get great big 8-10" flowers sometime this summer and they will bloom until fall.
I have planted flowers on Mother's Day for as long as I can remember. Every time I do, I remember two little girls who played in the dirt with me. That will always be with me.
We didn't get everything planted because my Mother's Day feast had yet to come. BBQ ribs, potatoes with onions , and a wonderful salad made by Chrys. Yum. Ben, Angel and Chrys joined us for dinner.
I have wonderful family. I am blessed. Thank you to all my awesome family.

Just another Friday
Bridget is here for the summer. Greg has been gone this week, so she and I have had a lot of fun. She already has a full-time summer job at J. Alexanders. For those of you who don't know, that is one of my favorite all time restaurants. They have the best carrot cake.
One year for my birthday we were going to go, but I got sick, so Greg said he would go down and get me a piece of cake. He got there, and they told him that they do not do take out. "Okay, says he, give me a beer and a piece of cake" After finishing his beer, he told the bartender he was too full for the cake would they please wrap it to go. That's one of the things I love about him, always thinking.
Got to take to Jenn and the babies on Sykpe last night. What fun that is. It is so nice to see every one's faces. Tucker gave me kisses and read me books. Finley wasn't sure what was going on. When I acted like I was tickling Tucker, Jenn tickled him, when I was kissing Finley she kissed him. I really liked that. Thanks Jennifer.
Making a sinful carrot cake for the shop tomorrow. It is the 10th year Klassy Katz has been in business. Yeah for Toni. The recipe I use has walnuts, carrots and pineapple. It is so delicious. Tell Ryan I will try to make him one some day.
My mother as usual will not take her meds for high blood pressure and she refuses to acknowledge her blood sugar issues. She is about to drive my poor sister, Denise, crazy. Pray for them both. Denise had her biopsy yesterday. She will get the results sometime next week.

Wills
After 18 months of the drafts sitting on a desk in our house, we have finally gotten our wills to the attorney. Now we just wait for the final drafts. They are really basic, if I go, Greg gets it all, if he goes I get it all, and if we both go, the kids get it all. Unfortunately, the state of TN is not very nice to widows/widowers if you die instate. The remaining spouse only gets 1/3 and the rest go to the natural children.
Not that I don't love all the kids, but if one of us goes, the other will need the income-that getting old and stuff.
Not a very pleasant subject to talk about, but if you have children you really need a will. All of you out there without a will. Get one.

New Old Car
What a bunch of junk is out there for a used car. We are in the process of trying to get Bridget a car for the summer. Not a super nice one, but one that will haul her butt back and forth to work this summer and possibly at college this fall.
Went to the Toyota dealer, boy oh boy are they proud of their junk. One of the cars had white powdery stuff all on the dash board and beneath. "The detail guys have a lot to do. I guess they got stuff on the dash". You think it might sell better if it at least had the appearance of being clean? Duh.
Then there is the lady who will not talk to you unless it is after 4 pm and will only show the car between 4-7 pm. We called her at 6:45 and were instructed to call back tomorrow after 4. I guess she wants to sell her car on her terms. Then she will wonder why her car didn't sell.
Anyone have a decent car they want to get rid of out there?

Bears
As most of my family knows, I collected bears of all shapes and sizes for quite a number of years. For the last few years they have not been on display. We are in the process of cleaning out the back bedroom and there were my bears.
A gentleman at a local hospital has a Bear Shop that has donated bears that they give to the children in the hospital.
So, as painful as it was for me, I went through my bears and sorted them out. I kept about 20 of them and the rest will go to the kids. All the special bears-the ones my kids gave to me for Mother's Day, birthdays, etc. -are staying with me.
Three of the very large bears are going to Tucker and Finley for their enjoyment.
Some made me smile, some made me cry. There were a lot of memories tied up in that big bag of bears.
Thanks to everyone that has given me a bear over the years. They have made me happy.
